My Installation

For my painting elective we were asked to build an installation in response to a painting. I choose "A Covent Garden in Brittany" by William John Leech. I tried to use many materials and manipulate then into organic flowing shapes. I also tried to stay close to the paintings original palette.

Shadow Lines

I recorded the lines where the shadows fell at different angles with marker.

Shadow Work

I photographed some scrunched up paper with my lamp shining on it at different angles. I liked the different effects that I achieved while doing this work.

Prints

These are the products of my experience in the print room. I used crumpled sheets of paper that I had made in the same process That I had been previously using to make the can shapes.

From Shadows to Reflection

Another interesting use of light in art is reflections. Like shadows, it can be very effective in conveying movement. From my trip to the Dublin Contemporary exhibition in early October, I came across an artist, who used reflection in beautiful and captivating ways. Aswell as this, some of his pieces have a similar theme to my work- destruction.

"Riddled Cabinet" 2006

Stephen Holl

After finding out how interesting shadows can be, after photographing my sculpture piece in the church, I decided to look at artist who incorporate the possibility of interesting shadows in their work. In my search I came across American artist, Stephen Holl, who created this "Riddled Table". As you can see from the photos this anticipation of the shadows adds drama to the piece of furniture. I think using shadows in art is fascinating as it constantly according to the light.
